Pune Update: 2 Jan 2005

MAITRI TSUNAMI RELIEF: 2nd January 2005 : 08:35 AM: Appeal Number 4

Make the difference by giving 5 kg rice!

Seven days are over since the tsunami disaster. The affected are living in temporary shelters and they will live like that for at least a month because they are not allowed to fish.

MAITRI has decided to take care of one small such camp for at least a month, at Pudhupattinam - New Namili, which is located 60 kms away from Chennai. Our volunteers based on the seashore of Tamilnadu have estimated that 5 kgs of rice would be little more than sufficient for a family of six.

You give only 5 kg of rice or donate 50 Rs, we will purchase the rice for you.

Keep that rice with you and collect more from your friends within your locality. Aim at collecting minimum 200 kgs. Of course, you can collect more.

On 7th January, we are despatching a truck to Chennai. You simply have to tell your name and address either on phone or email. You can also circulate this mail to your friends.

Our volunteers will come and collect the rice from you.

Telephone: Harihar Gole: 2543 2318 / Jayashree Shidore 98231 38888 or email: vinitat@vsnl.com

If there was a way that those of us across the world could contribute to your "Rice Fund," I know that I for one would participate. Can you set up a PayPal account, or would you want someone to do that for you? Is there another, relatively easy way to get monetary donations to your volunteers?

Thanks in advance.

We've set up a website that makes it even easier for people to generate funds for the tsunami relief effort. Please check out http://www.ReliefSearch.org.

Very simply, when users click on search results generated from ReliefSearch.org, the site earns revenues on a pay-per-click basis. All click revenues generated from these searches will help fund the victims of the Earthquake/Tsunami disaster. People can continue performing searches on the web as they normally would, only proceeds from their activities on ReliefSearch.org will help the cause. So, we're encouraging users to use the ReliefSearch.org search engine instead of Google or Yahoo!

Our goal is 1 million searches in the next 30 days. Anything you can do to help spread the word about ReliefSearch.org will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for your help!

Dear Anonymous,

There are collections of food - mainly RICE, in Pune as there is relief going to specific villages in Tamil Nadu from here. You could contact Pune cell no.0-98220 04752. However, if you are going to directly liaison with aid coordinators in Tamil Nadu, please access them on this website by clicking on Aid Organisations and locating Tamil Nadu areas.
