Pune (India) update and further aid request

Quite a bit of progress has happened in Pune. The local Indian Red Cross Society has sent out its first team of doctors, nurses and paramedics from Pune today who will be reaching Chennai on the afternoon of 31st Dec.and then move to the operation areas. They are carrying what is needed most - 'MEDICINE SUPPLIES' and monetary help.

- Please focus on sending medicines first. The same can be deposited in neat, labelled packets or cartons at : The Indian Red Cross Society office, 2nd Floor - Atur Sangtani Red Cross House, M.G.Road, Opp.Central Bank of India, Pune 411001 (Pune Ph.26130031)OR drop it with myself,Ms.Vijaya Moorthy,(authorised to collect funds & medicines by Indian Red Cross Society-Pune District Branch) 3 Silver Classic Apartments, S.R.P.F.Road, Wanowrie, Pune 411040 (Mobile no.-98220 04752).

- I can arrange for the prescribed/required medicines to be collected from a pharmacy store and have it packaged for despatch, if donors agree to pay the store. Alternately, the following medicine supplies can be provided directly by donors:
ALL WELL WITHIN EXPIRY DATE :(Tablets/capsules)Parecetamol, Brufen 400mg, Avil 25mg, Norflox 400mg, Amoxycillin 250 mg, Mebendazole, Cetrizine, Ciprofloxacin 500mg, Chloroquine, Domstal; (for babies) cough syrup, paracetamol syrup, painkiller; (Injections) Paracetamol, Betnesol, Voveran, Avil, Dexona, Cyclopam, Gentamycin, Hydrocortisone 100mg; Bandages (5"by 7"), finger bandages, Savlon, Dettol, Cotton Bundle, Scissors, Crepe bandage, Burnol; (non-medicine items)Mineral water bottles (uniform 1 litre / 5 litre bottles),Candles and Matchsticks.

- Monetary contributions must keep flowing. Incase you are not already contributing to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and wish to make a donation, contribute to the Red Cross,favouring - 'The Indian Red Cross Society' (DD's or cheques payable in Pune). The Red Cross donations can be dropped at the above addresses mentioned for medicine donations.

- Red Cross office, Pune is not accepting any other material at this moment. Updates will be given here about further requirements.

- An NGO, Maitri is gathering food items like rice, dal (1 kg.packs); bottled mineral water (A NECESSITY); clean blankets; clean bedsheets; baby food tins; milk tins. Please contact Ms.Vineeta at Pune ph.no.25466103.

- Maitri will organise movement of volunteers to affected areas after a basic scrutiny in the next few days. Please watch this space for further information.

Jaycees of Mayiladuthurai (Mayavaram) in Tanjore Dt is involved in Tsunami Relief Work at Poompuhar, Chidambaram and other nearby coastal areas. Refugee Camps are being run in Mayiladuthurai for the displaced victims. There is an urgent need to provide medicines at various camps. Jaycees volunteers will assist in distribution. Jaycees can also assist corporates and NGOs to carry out Relief Work in the nearby areas to ensure benefits reach the victims.
