MAKE DONATIONS TO TSUNAMI VICTIMS IN SOUTH ASIA.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE VARIOUS ORGANIZATION
ACCEPTING DONATIONS CLICK HERE : http://www.boshtang.com/2004/12/tsunami-update-deathtoll-rises-to.html.

THERE IS A PLETHORA OF INFORMATION ON INTERNATIONAL, AMERICAN, CANADIAN, INDIAN AND PHILIPPINE AID AGENCIES.

Note: Some employers match your contributions to charities. So if you put 100 $ the employer would put another 100 $. This way you could double your contributions. Check with your employer and find out which charities are matched by your employer and make a donation to one of those charities.

The Red Cross (at least in Colorado) is only accepting money. Is anyone accepting goods in the US for the tsunami relief efforts? Where can I send clothes, basic first aid, non-perishable food etc? If there's nothing in Colorado Springs or Denver, is there any location in the US accepting goods?

I would like to volunteer my help-available to fly down immediately.. Are there any airlines offering cheap flights down for volunteers?

Wed Dec 29, 10:25:00 am IST
Blogger Dale L. Larson said :

So far, several organization have responded that they don't have volunteer opportunities overseas, while others list only opportunities to pay them for the priveledge of working in Africa or wherever, but no reference to volunteering for the current disaster. See below for my original message to them...

I don't have the ability from India to do a lot of research from here. I haven't seen any good articles or postings about how to volunteer with relief efforts, and it is starting to look like no one is accepting such help.

I'm saying that I'm in the area, I have skills, experience and abilities and a strong healthy body to offer and that I want to go where I am needed to help with releiving this disaster.

I now have several friends who are fellow travelers in the area who want to join me as well as other friends from America who are in situations where they can pay to get themselves here and make themselves available to help for months.

I think that in the case of a disaster like this, there are good people who have great experience, skills and a pair of hands to offer that realize they are in a
position in their lives where they could help right now, and that it is a damn shame to waste that energy and enthusiasm and unique circumstance.

Is there someone out there who can take advantage immediately (or almost so) of me and these other 6-12 hard working, experienced and skilled people to help? Most of us don't have money we could donate, but could cover the huge expense of transportation to the site and then would be worth a lot of money in labor. We're happy to work as volunteers or in a low-paying position, whatever.

It's nice that CNN has an article about where to send cash, how about an article on the lack of resources for those who stand ready to give something much more precious -- themselves.

----- Forwarded message -----
I'm an American currently traveling in India. I had been considering going to Sri Lanka in late January (though I hadn't yet purchased my ticket), but now am
less interested in going as a tourist. I am interested in going now to help in the relief efforts if I can find a way to usefully do so. I might also be
interested in working in the stricken parts of India (I'm currently in Goa, though my tourist visa expires January 28).

If you could forward my email appropriately within your organization, or perhaps direct me to other rganizations who might be appropriate, that would be most appreciated.

Though I haven't volunteered for disaster relief before, I'm at a perfect place and time in my life to be able to do so now.

My travel plans are flexible and I have no commitments which would prevent me from volunteering for possibly as much as six months. I do have a plane ticket
home from India (via other countries I'd planned to visit) which has to be used by August.

I have a very limited budget, but I can cover the cost of my flight from India to Sri Lanka. I presume I'd probably not be able to find a hotel and resturants
where help is needed so that whoever I'm working with would have to provide food and shelter while I am working. I'm traveling as a typical backpack tourist; I
don't have a tent, sleeping bag, water filter or other camping/survival gear with me.

I'm pretty capable in most every sense. I have lots of computer skills and magerial experience (I've been the operations manager of an internet datacenter and have managed other businesses, have done software engineering, network management and IT support), current cpr/medic/first-responder training (seems a bit late for that), am a rescue diver (also a bit late for that), have some hands-on construction skills and expereince (as well as managing construction contracts), have wilderness survival training, and am physically capable of performing hard labor or otherwise working in physically challenging environments. I am reliable and a hard worker and would be happy to provide references. I'm willing to do just about any work needed to help in whatever way
possible.

Thanks for the good work you do and thanks for pointing me in the right
direction!

-Dale

www.networkforgood.org is a great site that has a database of organizations dedicated towards this relief effort...people make donations there!!! A few dollars is not going to change or standard of living, but if each of us donates that much money it will save an infinite number of lives from disease, starvation, and all of the other horrible ways people have died/will die from over there.

DO THE RIGHT THING!

Watching the coverage of this horrible diaster has moved me to tears for the people that have been looking for loved ones, and those that have lost their lives, and those who are still here to feel the aftermath with their families. I have been having this intense feeling to get involove and do something to help someone, anyone effected.
I do not have much but I am willing to give what I do have. I am going to make an online donation today and I vow to continue to give at the first possible chance I get from here on out.

Greetings all,
Thank you for this blog. I have posted the link on JRE Grassroots.org and on my own blog as well, called Benny's World. This has really good information.

I do have a question. I have read that most of the wildlife in Sri Lanka sensed the earthquake coming and moved to higher ground. However, they must be vulnerable as people are to disease, lack of water, food, etc as perhaps many of their care takers may be lost or dead. Is there an organization that is assisting in taking care of these wildlife habitats or rescuing these animals? I tried looking at the World Wildlife Federation's web site, which does mention the disaster, but I didn't see anything about any special efforts.

Thank you. God bless you and the survivors of this earth shattering experience. May those looking for their loved ones find them soon.

On holiday at the moment in Kerala. The one place where the tsunami hit hard here - Kollam - seems to be under control but it looks like Tamil Nadu still has problems. I can get there in a day or two but wary of turning up and just getting in the way. If there is any need for unskilled unpaid distribution or reconstruction workers please please let me know.

I am a water/wastewater engineer with 10-years of experience in the design, construction and operation of many municipal water and sewage treatment systems - membrane/RO, direct filtration, disinfection, media filtration, distillation, etc. I offer free engineering or operation assistance from my location in New York, USA (where I am licensed as a Professional Engineer) anytime via phone (home phone 518.377.6642 or work phone 518.218.1801 extension 112) or email (kohara1 AT nycap DOT rr DOT com OR kohara AT bartonandloguidice DOT com). Digital or scanned photos of the problem will be helpful if available, but not necessary. I have a valid passport and could help in person if needed for operation, construction and design of temporary or permanent drinking water or sewage treatment systems - again, this would be at no cost. In this case, please give me as much notice as possible so I can take a leave from my employer. Also, I realize it is selfish to ask, but anything that would offset the cost of my travel expenses would be greatly appreciated, but not required. I hope I am able to help in this way - we have donated money but want to do more. Our deepest sympathies go to all those affected by this horrific event - Keith, Heather and Anna O'Hara.

I request u to join this group and help all the people affected by tsunami directly and indirectly. As the destruction caused by tsunami is titanic with nearly 175000 people dead unofficially and millions affected indirectly who have lost their mother, brother, father, sister or their children. So repairing this massive destruction is not a short term process but a very long term process involving psychological, spiritual and physical aid to the tsunami affected at its aftermath. So if u want to truly help the affected even if by simply posting a message that carries love and affection with it, plz join this group and get yourself involved in producing a smile in those million deserted faces affected by tsunami. If u join this group others will also join and make this effort a success. so plz join this group as we value even a single membership, a single attempt in creating a better life.

Hello,
I work for a well established private non profit faith based foster care and adoption agency. After hearing the heart breaking news today about how these children that have been severely traumatized may be suffering further abuse and exploitation by unscrupulous folks, we would like to see if there was anything we can do. Our staff are master's level social workers and counselors that have extensive experience working with children who have been displaced from their families of origin, as well as screening and matching adoptive families with those children. We have already begun the search for funding from private donors, foundations, and corporations to cover expenses of staff and travel. What I am having a hard time trying to find is if our experiences and training would or could be used by any of governments and communities that have been hit by the tsunami. There would be a culture difference and language barriers, but I imagine our expertise and experiences could be used in some way. If anyone has any information at all, please let me know. I can be reached by email at jmueller@arrow.org
Thank you

Also, any *local* Thai organizations that are looking for assistance doing manual labor, construction, courier work, etc. etc. would be helpful.

My name is Michael McCarthy, I am an inter-denominational minister with a background in Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam. I was widowed at 21 (40 years ago) and lived through the flood of '72 in my home of Wilkes-Barre, PA, assisting in the relief efforts there by counseling those who lost "everything" and others who lost loved ones and family members.
I have a position that will provide sustenance, in my absence, for my family (wife and 11 year old son), and i would be able to spend a few months in the effected areas. My employer may also be willing to pay my travel expenses if someone coiuld provide me with direction to where my skills and experiences might be most needed.
I am a long-time student of eastern disciplines and religions and am a practitioner of eastern prayer and meditation techniques, incorporated into my Catholic/Christian upbringing. If anyone can direct or assist me, i have time, and an inner longing to help in any way i can. All suffering is intimate and personal - and transitory.

I am a Canadian citizen, living in central Germany. I am desperately trying to help a boy, and some other child victims of the flood in Meulaboh, long term, but no Aid agency has responded. I first learned about this particular boy and these children through a photograph taken by Dita Alangkara last week, published in Der Tagesspielgel and it has moved me to very direct action. I have found the location of this boy, through the photographer:

It was taken at a refugee camp in the town of Meulaboh in the western
coast of Aceh province. It actually a school building they turned into
temporary shelter. The place is called STM (pronounced 'as-tay-am')
It's close to a military camp called 'Kompi C', everyone in Meulaboh
knows where it is.
As far as I know, there's no one running the camp. They just occupied
the building right after the disaster. They have received food aid and
clothing regularly.
The boy lives in the left-wing of the school compound. If you had
chance
to go there, there are many more children who need help.

My question is, do any of you have any contacts with aid agencies near Kompi C? I need to find help for these children long term. They need more than food and clothing, they also need homes where they will be loved and cared for. My first priority, like yours, is to find a local home where this boy can be cared for. In order to help this boy and these children at all, even if just financially, from a distance, I need to find someone there who can take them under his/her wing. I can send a copy of the boy's photo, and all my contact information, for the person on the ground. I am very much afraid of these children ending up on the streets.

Sincerely,

Tanya Harding

Friends of mine in Spain have just raised over 60.000 euros in a fund raising event and want to use the money to aid the victims of the recent flooding. They would like to find a village near Phuket in Thailand where they can go over to help and use the money raised. Does anyone know of any offical agencies that can help with this type of request? They are leaving for the area next Monday so this is urgent. Please email me to paulkassell@hotmail.com

Regards,

Paul.

I am searching for my friend, Dewi Safitri, from Indonesia. Her birthdate: 21st Oct. 1973. We had thought her safe but this week received an IM from her brother Rey and sister Aman that she was in Aceh, and is now missing. The last postal address I have for her was her brother's in Yogyakarta, so we have no way of knowing exactly where she was at the time of the earthquake and tsunami. I have posted her photo, and registered her name with Aceh Media Center, airputih.or.id, ICRC, and Newscover. If anyone has any information on Dewi's whereabouts, please contact me via email, lyonnesse23@hotmail.com. Thank you. ~Diana Pritchard

We wanted to put on a local charity gig to aid a specific area - Krabi island. A friend of ours has been there and they are getting next to no relief as yet.
However, we wanted to know how we can register to make sure we are legitimate and can prove it to people if we need to. Also we aren't 100% sure how to make sure the money gets to them. Our friend has sent us the account details of someone 'important' on the island (i think he's a councillor or similar equivalent) to send the money directly, but we're not sure if this is right.
Can anyone throw some light on any of this please?

Hi I'm a student from NZ and I'm doing an assignment on the Asia Tsunami. My interests were on this particular topic which is why I need further information. My question I would like answered is "In what ways has the tsunami affected the Asian economy?"
