International Association For Human Values: Relief efforts, field reports and request for donations

International Association for Human Values, in association with the Art of Living Foundation (both international NGOs in special consultative status with the United Nations and present in 142 countries worldwide), has issued a world wide appeal for contributions towards immediate relief and rehabilitation work in regions that have been affected by the devastating tsunami and earthquakes in South Asia. IAHV has already sent $25,000 for immediate relief efforts.

  • Art of Living, Trichy center, responded immediately, collecting relief materials (clothes, food, medicines and water) and sent them to the affected areas.
  • Core team of 20 volunteers under leadership of Sanjeev Kumar, Babu, Lakshmana Perumal moved into Karikal and Nagipattinam districts and reached out to other volunteers.
  • Team of doctors under the leadership of Anjalo, Parthiban and Manivel moved to the worst affected areas of Nagipattinam and Karaikal to provide medical assistance.
  • Further 7 more vans with relief material has moved to Nagaipattinam.
  • Team of 50 volunteers from Trichy led by Captain Jagadeesan and Sanjeev Kumar along with 3 teachers and 10 volunteers are working in the worst affected areas of Nagaipattinam.
  • Further volunteer teams from Kumbakonam and Thanjavoor centers are joining the existing volunteer group.
  • A operational base camp is being set up in the Art of Living center in Tiruvarur which is 15 kms from Nagipattinam
  • Volunteers in Chennai city are donating clothes and other relief material in a big way.
  • In Kerala, Art of Living is running two relief camps in Karunagapally and two in Vypeen islands alongside the government.
  • Extensive work is also happening in Kanyakumari and Ramnad districts.
  • Immediate needs include:
  1. blankets
  2. cooking vessels
  3. kerosene stoves
  4. anti malarial vaccines
  5. safe drinking water
