CRY Tsunami Fund

Ingrid Srinath of Child Relief & You (CRY) sends us a message:

4 CRY projects in Tamil Nadu have been affected by the tsunami. These are Cheers at Tracepuram, CSG at Devanampattinam and Singarathoppu (Singarapattinam) in Cuddalore and AIRD at Ramnad.

Projects CRY supports that are not themselves affected but work in affected areas are: Pasumai Trust in Kalpakkam, Anawim in Veerapandiya Pattinam and Senthilveedhi and DBA in Nagapattinam

Other CRY supported NGOs will be covering the areas from Pulicat to Ennore, Thiruvottiyur to Washerman pet, Rajakadai to Ennore, Marina to Kovalam, Kovalam to Mahabalipuram and Mahabalipuram to Marakkanam

CRY is re-directing some funds to these to meet immediate relief work needs in these project areas. Donations to help replenish these funds are welcome at www.cry.org or by cheque/DD at the CRY offices:

Bangalore: 12/1-3, Madhavi Mansion, Bachchammal Rd., Cox Town, Bangalore 560005

Chennai: 57/2, P S Sivasamy Salai (Sullivan Garden Rd), Mylapore, Chennai 600040

Delhi: DDA Slum Wing (Barat Ghar), Bapu Park, Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi 110003

Kolkata: 511, Jodhpur Park, Kolkata 700068

Mumbai: 189/A, Anand Estate, Sane Guruji Marg, Mumbai 400011

Based on our experience in Gujarat post the earthquake and what our teams on the ground in AP and TN are reporting now, the situation is fairly chaotic in terms of lack of co-ordination, duplication of effort and vast uncovered areas and communities . What we have done is joined a group of NGOs including Action Aid, Oxfam, CCF, CARE, UNICEF and Save the Children to ensure better planning, coordination and accountability. Any resources we raise will be channelised through this group where each NGO will focus on its areas of strength - geographically and capacity-wise.

We will set up a separate Tsunami Relief Fund and web page shortly. I should be able to give you details by the end of the day today.

Currently, like most NGOs, we are doing the best we can to figure out what's needed, where and responding in any way we can. While simultaneously trying to get the back-end in terms of donor communication, bank accounts, tax exemptions etc. in place.
