Hundreds of Children Orphaned in TN, India

One of the tragic result of this tsunami disaster is the amount of children that have been orphaned in Tamil Nadu, India. More than 500 children might have been rendered orphaned and the government, which came across this problem later, had ordered a survey of this. Till last night, 147 children had been identified as rendered destitute as their parents were killed by the tsunami. More about this here.

Here's a story on how a NGO in chennai has helped this situation by adopting 100 such orphaned children.

There is one more such NGO - called Bhoomika Trust in Balaji Nagar, Royapettah, Chennai. They have been sending all the essential commodities to the affected areas in Tamil Nadu. Any one who is willing to help them out in packaging and sending food, clothing, blankets and other relief materials can do so. I had the privilege of helping them out in packing some food. In fact another 10 people from my office were there with me in helping them out.

And those who are interested can accompany some of their personnel to the affected areas and help them in distributing the food packets, the clothes, the blankets etc. the people there.
