Rains bring new misery to Sri Lanka victims, hamper aid effort

Karaitivu, Sri Lanka, January 2:
Torrential rains brought fresh hardship to tsunami survivors in eastern Sri Lanka on Sunday, flooding refugee camps, forcing the evacuation of at least one and leaving others dotted with stagnant pools.

"We already lost our homes. We came here then the rains came and took away our bundles, everything we had left," said G.K. Sambasivam, 65, waving his arms in despair.

I was at a meeting at the SL high Commission yesterday [1/1/05] and all 100 present were informed that no more doctors were needed - even though there were Sri lankan medical staff present offering their services and ready to fly out immediately.

Can someone tell me where general members of the public can find out exactly what is required?

Also we were told that freight companies are now charging for transport of containers at approx UK six hundred pounds and that Si Lankan Airlines will now be chaging for freight transport fom 3/1/05.

Whilst we understand the economioc necessities of this policy, does anyone know were funds can be obtained to pay for these charges as relief is still coming in to independent supporters and it is pointless still collecting food and medicines if there are no means to pay for their transport.

I Think That It is just so sad what happened to all those poor people in Those Countries. One Lady had a brother who someone had found but there was no number on the poster. She is now looking through 4,000 bodies to find one person. How upsetting
