Tsunami Claims 3 Koreans, Leaves 12 on Missing List
As the death toll from Sunday morning's powerful earthquake and the ensuing tsunami that devastated South Asia is expected to rise above 50,000, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the official count of Korean victims stood at three fatalities, 12 missing, 17 wounded and 163 with whom contact has been cut.
If a body discovered near Khao Lak is confirmed to be that of a Korean woman who was on her honeymoon when disaster struck, the death toll of Korean nationals would rise to four.
A four-year-old boy who had originally been presumed dead was recategorized as missing due to a failure to locate the body, while a teenage boy who had been rumored dead was discovered to be alive and well.
