AID India steps up relief effort - Continues appeal for funds

“We will have to work for at least two (2) years to get things back to normal. In the medium term, we will have to set up shelters and shift to house construction, set up cooperatives and provide livelihood opportunities (boats, nets, etc) through these cooperatives. In the long run we will be working towards overall development in the area,” observed Balaji Sampath, a full-time coordinator of AID-India based in Chennai who has been a key resource in setting up coordination efforts for relief efforts in Tamil Nadu.

Two local fishermen from Karikattu Kuppam (along the eastern coast of Chennai) told AID volunteers surveying the area, "Sir, we are very grateful to the public for helping us in this critical juncture. However, we need to get back to our job - fishing. We have lost almost all the boats (well over a 100) and fishing nets which cost us around Rs.1 lakh (around $2400) per family. We desperately need them so that we can take care of ourselves."

AID has indulged in deception and quietly removed the reference to DYFI from its website. They still have not provided donors with a list of NGOs they will be funding & how many volunteers are engaged at grass-roots level (reports confirm only tens). Also, NOT a SINGLE AID volunteer touched a dead body, but they are claiming credit for organizing removal of dead bodies by standing next to those who remove dead bodies!

AID should put a press release on this. Only then can the volunteers and donors in US believe what is going on.
