Tsunami relief experience changes Perth medical team

Members of a Perth medical team sent to help people in Indonesia's tsunami devastated region of Banda Aceh have arrived home. The seven doctors, nurses and public health workers spent two weeks in the region operating on injured people and helping them fight disease. Paul Van Buynder, who works for the Department of Health, says it was a life changing experience.

Dr Van Buynder says his team will be replaced by more medical professionals which is a relief because there is much more work to be done."We're really concerned that there are still very many people who are on the western side of Aceh province that we haven't found yet or haven't been able to get to medical care," he said. "Many of those will either pass away or have very delayed surgery in the next few weeks."
