UK: Metropolitan Police Appeal

The Metropolitan Police is appealing for friends and relatives who have
not updated its Casualty Bureau of the safe return of their loved ones
from Southeast Asia to get in touch as soon as possible.

Since the earthquake and tsunami disaster on Boxing Day, thousands of
concerned members of the public have rung the emergency telephone number
to report that they have not heard from friends or relatives they knew
were visiting the stricken areas.

Many of these visitors or holidaymakers will have safely returned or
have contacted relatives or friends to say they are safe and well. The
Met is appealing to the original callers to help keep records up-to-date
by letting us know of their loved ones' safe return.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner John Yates said:

"In the relief of knowing that a friend or relative is safe, people who
originally contacted us may not have remembered to let us know. In order
that Foreign and Commonwealth Office records are up-to-date, we would
urge the people who originally called us to ring again."

The emergency telephone number is +44 (0)20 7008 0000.
