4,657 missing in Kaachal islands alone
Port Blair, Jan 4 (UNI) Even ten days after the tsunami struck the Andaman and Nicobar islands more than half of the total of the 8,000 population in the Kaachal islands in south Nicobar continue to remain missing and are presumed to be dead.
Disclosing this to newspersons here this evening, vice chairman of the Integrated Relief Command (IRC) and its only spokesman Lt Gen B P Thakur, Vice Chief of Army staff, said while a total of 6,010 people were still missing, the highest 4,657 were accounted for in Kaachal island alone followed by 494 in Car Nicobar, 438 in Kamorta, 224 in Trinket and 110 in Chowrai besides 52 in Teresa, 16 in Great Nicobar, 12 in Hud bay and 6 in Bambobka.
