Latest Situation Report from Govt. of India

Government of India has just released their latest assessment on the relief efforts in India. Among other thing, the report says

An All Party meeting was convened on 9th January 2005 to discuss the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the Tsunami affected areas and assistance provided to the neighbouring countries in the region affected by the Tsunami. The Government informed that a Bill will be introduced in the Parliament during the coming Budget Session for establishing the National Disaster Management Authority and the Central Legislation on Disaster Management in the country. The Ministry of Science and Technology will also initiate action for setting up the Tsunami Warning Centre. The team of experts will also be deputed to carry out the Geo-oceanography Study of Islands in the Nicobar Group of Islands . The Government also assured of a comprehensive relief package for the Tsunami affected families to enable them to re-start a secured normal life.
