Sri Lanka Army Takes Over Food Distribution In Crisis Area
The Sri Lankan government Wednesday ordered the security forces to take charge of the distribution of food and other needs to victims of the tsunami amidst widespread reports of uncoordinated and chaotic distribution of reports of supplies being robbed.
The paper quoted military sources as saying district commanders moved swiftly into action, relocating victims from small centres to larger refugee centres in a bid to streamline aid distribution and prevent abuse, waste or dumping as often seen in the past few days.Till Tuesday, the aid distribution was coordinated by district secretaries and local officials who will continue to play an important role but under the command of the district military coordinators.
