Govt Bans Adoption of Orphans in Aceh, N Sumatra

Jakarta - Social Affairs Minister Bachtiar Chamsyah said the government for the time being imposed a ban on the adoption of orphans in the tsunami-hit Aceh and North Sumatra provinces by individuals or institutions.

"For the time being there will be no adoption, because the Social Affairs Ministry and the association of Acehnese in North Sumatra (Aceh Sepakat) and a similar organization in Jakarta (Taman Iskandar Muda) are able to take care of the orphans from the westernmost province," the minister told newsmen here Tuesday.
