Jan 3, 2005: Survivors of the killer tsunami need psychological help as they are unable to forget the horror and panic of that day, say relief workers.
Though medical aid and food have reached them, there is little attempt to provide them with psychological help. "We need professional counsellors and psychologists," says E. Rabindranath, chairman of the Disaster Management Committee of the Indian Medical Association.
"The survivors are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, which is giving them nightmares and may even hamper their lives.
"There is a need to establish a psychological crisis intervention cell which should be connected with hotlines with all the camps of tsunami survivors," adds clinical psychologist Sangetha Madhu.
